Welcome to CORE Paddles.
My name is Steve Horvath. That's me on the left testing the first ever CORE Paddle proto.
I love paddling. Love every aspect of paddling. I love the friends I have made over the past 18 years
playing on the water and I love the places I have explored from within the confines of my kayak.
This wonderful sport has broadened my appreciation of the world around me in ways I could not have
anticipated when I took up the sport years ago at the behest of a good friend. But above all else I
love combining my affinity for 3D CAD design, engineering, and innovation with my desire to develop
the best gear available.
CORE has been a dream of mine for almost a decade. A vision to combine some of the most advanced
technologies available into one solid cutting edge product that is better than the combined efforts
of all that had come befor it. CORE is defined quite simply by a desire to look outside of the status quo
to produce something beyond compare. A paddle that has no rivals. A paddle, and a company,
that
provides performance beyond what was available. A company that will add to your love of paddling.
Company
CORE is a paddle sports company envisioned by myself and built by like minded paddlers. Our investors are all paddlers. Every member of our board of directors is a paddler. All of our employees are paddlers.
I truly believe that to build the best paddles in the world you need to surround yourself with people who share a simlar passion. A passion for not only building the best product but also for providing the best customer service. It is this customer service that is best served by people who understand the products CORE is selling. When you correspond with anyone from CORE you will be speaking with someone who can relate to your questions or comments. Someone who can give you honest feedback about how our product compares to our competitors. Someone who paddles and someone who will take a direct interest in your requirements as a paddler, retailer or athlete.
CORE is also Canadian and is dedicated to using local sources for all of our input materials. Nothing used in the manufacture of a CORE paddle has been shipped in from
off shore markets. All of our shafting comes from Easton in the USA. All of our input materials come from within North America. All of our molding is done within a 30 minute
radius of our production facility. Even our production tooling is sourced from North American suppliers ( with much of it designed and cut in house ).
CORE is dedicated to pursuing innovative solutions that improve the performance of paddle sports products. Performance through innovation.
History
I started working in the product design field building racing bicycles for professional athletes about 2 decades ago. During that time I developed a healthy knowledge base
for material composition, structural design and 3D CAD modeling. I used that knowledge to build Waterstick Paddles: which I sold shortly after inception. Since that time I
have worked as a consultant and have been directly responsible
( or helped in the development or conceptualization of ) :
- first production thermoplastic composite paddles ( Waterstick / technology now licenced to AT )
- AT paddles thermoplastic paddle line
- first production translucent blade technology ( H2O )
- design / development 3D CAD full product line ( H2O )
- first WW bent shaft grip technology ( H2O )
- first CNC cut WW boats: cut direct from 3D CAD ( Fluid Kayaks )
- first thermoplastic composite paddle boats ( conceptualization input only / Robson / Stu Morris, UK Designer )
- Thermalite Paddles ( Robson )
- Fluid Kayaks rec. paddle
- Suspenz Kayak Storage racks
Working on the above listed projects over the past decade I began to envision a truly unique line of paddles that addressed many of the design shortcomings I was seeing
in competing brands.
The only problem was that the technology to make it happen was not available yet. That changed when I met with Easton in 2009 to discuss the possibility of having them build a shaft for CORE. They were excited about working with us and the result is 2 years of R + D, a proprietary new shaft technology and the contents of this website.
